The “Teddy” book series was commissioned by Collins Publishers' chief editor, Jane Fior, who recognised the potential of Amanda’s simple, stop-animation style of watercolour illustrations of a mischievous teddy bear, at her final diploma year show at Brighton College of Art.
“Teddy’s First Christmas” was published in 1982, the first of a series of 13 picture books and novelty books published over the next 8 years. Amanda also had 4 books published by Methuen
Amanda’s animated characters have been described as whimsical and charming. Amongst her many influences are Arthur Rackham, Carl Larrson and Walt Disney.
